Pudhumai Penn Scheme Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a Tamilnadu citizen.
  • The applicant must be a female student.
  • Beneficiary must be an enrolled student in a government school or higher education institution.
  • The applicant must be studying from 6th to 12th.
  • Assistance can be given to any number of female students in a family who are pursuing higher education from recognized institutions, colleges, or universities.
  • Assistance is provided to only one course of higher education pursued by the student.

1) Offline Application Process

  • The application process for the Pudhumai Penn Scheme is to be done only by students through their respective schools, colleges, or institutions. 
  • Registration Camp: The government conducted a registration camp for female students up to 11th November 2022 at their respective colleges or institutes where the student submitted their details and documents for registration.
  • Late Registration: Students who have missed the registration that took place in the camp can still apply. One can contact the principal of their school/college to apply.

2) Online Application Form or Pudhumai Penn Scheme Student login:

  • Log in by entering the username and password issued by the institution/college with the help of the principal.

Advantages of the Pudhumai Penn Scheme

The Pudhumai Penn Scheme 2025 is a major initiative that helps in promoting gender equality in education in Tamil Nadu.

  • Financial Support:- The Pudhumai Penn Scheme provides financial support of Rs. 1,000 per month to girls studying in classes 6th to 12th in government schools. It continues up to the completion of their Undergraduate degree, ITI, diploma, or any other recognized course, irrespective of the subject of study.
  • Under the Pudhumai Penn Scheme, Rs. 1,000 is being directly credited to the bank account of the student every month. The scheme targets 6 lakh female students every year and has been given Rs. 698 crore by the state government for this. 
  • In the first phase, 613 students have been given debit cards under this scheme. The scheme is also benefiting around 6,500 students in the Tiruchi district who are studying in science, arts, and engineering colleges.
  • Inspiration for Higher Education :- The scheme will inspire girls to pursue higher studies in various fields that will help them build successful careers.
  • Increased Accessibility of Resources:- The money can also be utilized for books, uniforms, and transportation amongst other educational needs.

          Steering and Monitoring Committees of the Pudhumai Penn Scheme

          1. State-Level Steering Committee

          At the State level, a Steering Committee will be constituted to monitor, coordinate, and oversee the scheme with the Chief Secretary as the Chairperson. This will meet twice a year at the level of ACS/Principal Secretary to discuss progress and problems.

          2. State-Level Monitoring Committee

          A State Level Monitoring Committee will be constituted, led by the Director of Social Welfare. This committee is required to meet once in three months and liaise with all departments concerned in which progress reports shall also periodically be submitted to the Steering Committee at the state level.

          3. District Level Monitoring Committee

          Under the stewardship of the District Collector, a district-level monitoring committee will be constituted for monitoring progress in monthly sessions so that implementation of this scheme takes place effectively at the district level.
